French Embassy celebrates Cannes award for Elephants in the Fog

KATHMANDU: The French Embassy in Kathmandu hosted a reception on June 12 to celebrate the success of Nepali film Elephants in the Fog, which won the Un Certain Regard Jury Prize at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival.

The film is a co-production involving Nepal, France, Germany, Brazil, and Norway, and received support from Institut Français through its La Fabrique program.

Speaking at the event, French Ambassador Virginie Corteval praised the international recognition as a reflection of Nepal’s growing creative potential and storytelling talent.

Director Abinash Bikram Shah highlighted the importance of international support in bringing independent and locally rooted stories to global audiences.

The reception was attended by the film’s crew, Acting Kathmandu Mayor Sunita Dangol, media representatives, and members of the film industry.
