KATHMANDU: Oscar College has honored the team behind the Nepali film Elephants in the Fog, which won the ‘Best Sound Creation Award’ and the ‘Best Jury Prize’ in the ‘Un Certain Regard’ section at the 79th Cannes Film Festival. The recognition was presented during a special program held at the college’s Sadhana Ghar on Friday.
Director Avinash Bikram Shah, Producer Anup Poudel, and around two dozen members of the film’s team were presented with letters of appreciation. The event also featured the cutting of a ceremonial cake. More than 100 attendees gave the filmmakers a standing ovation of nearly two minutes in recognition of their international achievement.
Senior director Nabin Subba, who attended as the chief guest, congratulated the team and said Elephants in the Fog has added a new dimension to the international recognition of Nepali cinema. He said the next challenge is to ensure that at least a few Nepali films each year continue to gain similar international acclaim.
Subba also said the achievement should encourage greater support for young filmmakers through the Film Bill currently under consideration in Parliament.
An interaction session with Director Shah and Producer Poudel was held during the event, where they shared their experiences with students and participants.
According to the organizers, the program was held to celebrate the success of Nepali cinema and inspire Oscar College students, with attendees joining together to mark the film’s unprecedented achievement.
