KATHMANDU: Multiple health professional organizations have submitted a joint memorandum to the Ministry of Health and Population, demanding reforms in the Nepal Health Professional Council over longstanding policy, structural, and representation issues. They warn of protests if concerns remain unaddressed.
The groups say the council has not been fully formed as required by law, disrupting key functions such as registration, renewal, professional development, and regulation, ultimately affecting healthcare quality and public health rights. They also raised concerns over lack of inclusive representation and delays in appointing officials.
Despite earlier agreements following a hunger strike by the Nepal CMA Association, the Cabinet’s return of the proposal has stalled its implementation.
Signatories include the Dental Science Hygienist Association of Nepal, Nepal Public Health Association, Medical Laboratory Association of Nepal, Health Assistant Association Nepal, and Nepal CMA Association. Further protests, including service withdrawal, have been warned of if demands are ignored.
