KATHMANDU: The historical Bhoto Jatra festival concluded in Jawalakhel, Lalitpur on Saturday, marking the final day of the chariot procession of Rato Machhindranath—the deity of rain and good harvest.
The event was attended by high-ranking dignitaries, including President Ram Chandra Paudel and Prime Minister Balen Shah.
As per tradition, President Paudel, along with other VIPs, received tika (a sacred forehead mark) and prasad (blessed food offerings) from the Living Goddess Kumari of Patan during the ceremony.
A large crowd of devotees gathered at Jawalakhel Chowk to catch a glimpse of the jewel-studded bhoto (vest), which was publicly displayed by representatives of the Guthi Sansthan.
Following the display of the vest, the longest chariot festival in the Kathmandu Valley officially concluded, and the idol of Rato Machhindranath was taken back to its home in Bungamati.
