KATHMANDU: There will be a continuous four-day public holiday starting today in celebration of the Bakra Eid ( Eid-ul-Adha) festival.

The government has declared a public holiday today on the occasion of Bakra Eid (Eid-ul-Adha), a major festival for followers of Islam.

The Ministry of Home Affairs issued a press release on Friday, announcing the decision to grant a public holiday today, Thursday (May 28), for Bakra Eid.

The statement issued by Home Ministry Spokesperson Ananda Kafle reads, “as per the information received from the Muslim Commission that Bakra Eid falls on Thursday, May 28, 2026, all concerned are hereby informed that a public holiday has been declared for May 28, 2026.”

The Ministry of Home Affairs has also extended its best wishes to all followers of Islam on the occasion of Bakra Eid.

Furthermore, tomorrow, May 29, is already a scheduled public holiday in observance of Republic Day.

Since the following days—May 30 (Saturday) and May 31 (Sunday)—are regular weekly weekends, it results in a continuous four-day public holiday this week.
