KATHMANDU: Nepal is observing Constitution Day today, September 19, with various programs across the country.

The day commemorates the promulgation of Nepal’s Constitution in 2015 by the Constituent Assembly. This is Nepal’s seventh written constitution, which envisions a socialism-oriented state while ensuring citizens’ social, economic, and cultural rights.

It reflects the aspirations of the Second People’s Movement, the Comprehensive Peace Accord, and the peace process.

The Constitution, drafted after the peace accord between the then seven-party alliance and the Maoists, formally institutionalized Nepal as a Federal Democratic Republic, ending the monarchy and the unitary system.

Under the charter, Nepal is divided into seven provinces, 753 local levels, and a federal government. The Constitution consists of 35 Parts, 308 Articles, and 9 Schedules.

A celebration is being held at the Army Pavilion in Tundikhel, Kathmandu, where the Nepal Army is performing and various formal programs are taking place.

Awareness campaigns, public discussions, and debates are being organized across the country.Print and electronic media are publishing and broadcasting special features to mark the occasion.
