KATHMANDU: Former President Dr Ram Baran Yadav has called on all citizens to exercise restraint during the current challenging period in the country and to move forward while upholding national unity.
Speaking to RSS on the occasion of the Constitution Day and National Day 2082 BS today, Dr Yadav, who also holds the distinction of being the first President of democratic Nepal, viewed that any wrongdoing within a democratic system should be addressed in accordance with the law.
He urged those involved in the recent Gen Z demonstrations held demanded an end to corruption and the promotion of good governance and others to cooperate with and support the incumbent interim government, which has been mandated for holding parliamentary elections scheduled for March 5, 2026.
Describing Constitution Day as a historic occasion, Dr Yadav underlined the need for focusing on the upcoming election. If amendments to the Constitution are necessary, he said, they should be proceeded with through the parliament to be formed after receiving a fresh electoral mandate.
“In a democracy, the rights of citizens lie within themselves. Citizens are the true masters of the nation,” he stated. “The Constitution guarantees that sovereignty, the form of governance, and the government itself are derived from the people.”
