KATHMANDU: The Department of Transport Management (DoTM) has suspended the registration of new public vehicles across the country.

The Department decided to halt registrations until further notice due to ongoing challenges in traffic and overall public transportation management.

A circular issued by Maniram Bhusal, Director of the Department, has been sent to the relevant ministries in all seven provinces as well as local government authorities.

The Department clarified that this decision applies to both fuel-powered and electric public vehicles.

The Department made this move by exercising the legal provision under Section 24, Subsection (3) of the Motor Vehicle and Transport Management Act, 1993, which allows for the suspension of new registrations in the interest of the public.
