KATHMANDU: The Minister for Education, Science and Technology, Sasmit Pokharel, has issued a six-point circular focusing on the safety and facilitation of students affected by the relocation of squatter settlements.
Following the minister’s directive, the Centre for Education and Human Resource Development under the ministry has issued instructions and requests to ensure effective management of examinations, coordination, and school adjustments in areas affected by unplanned settlement relocations.
The Centre has requested all local governments to facilitate the transfer of students affected by squatter settlement removals to nearby schools that are more accessible to them.
It has also emphasized the need for special arrangements for students appearing in the Grade 12 examinations, which began on Monday, ensuring they can reach their exam centres without difficulty. Where schools themselves are affected, alternative arrangements are to be made to continue educational activities.
Additionally, the ministry has requested local authorities to forward any complaints, issues, or suggestions related to students and schools in squatter settlements to the Centre for further coordination and resolution.
