KATHMANDU: A young woman has attempted self-immolation in Kathmandu.
On Monday, 27-year-old Salu Gurung, originally from Kavre and currently residing in Makalbari, Gokarneshwor Municipality-8, poured petrol on herself and attempted self-immolation near the Bouddha Gate in Kathmandu Metropolitan City-6.
According to Superintendent of Police Pawan Kumar Bhattarai, spokesperson for the District Police Range Kathmandu, Gurung set herself on fire behind the snack shop she ran following a dispute with her husband at around 2:50 AM.
Her husband extinguished the fire and rushed her to Sushma Koirala Memorial Hospital in Sankhu.
SP Bhattarai stated that Gurung sustained burns to about 50 percent of her body, including her face, chest, and both hands.
She was referred to Kirtipur Hospital on Tuesday morning for further treatment.
Police are currently investigating the incident, Bhattarai added.
