KATHMANDU: The Election Commission has officially declared the positions of three local government representatives vacant following their defection from the Nepali Congress to join other political parties.
This decision, finalized during a Commission meeting on June 22, 2026, comes after the Nepali Congress Central Working Performance Committee submitted formal evidence of the defections.
In accordance with Section 32(1) of the Political Parties Act, 2013, and Rule 22 of the Political Parties Rules, 2017, elected officials automatically lose their seats upon leaving their original party.
The three representatives stripped of their positions are Dan Bahadur Budha, Chairperson of Guthichaur Rural Municipality in Jumla; Fatima Khatun Ansari, Vice-Chairperson of Palhinandan Rural Municipality in Nawalparasi (Bardaghat Susta West); and Bishnu Dhakal, Ward Chairperson of Butwal Sub-Metropolitan City-3 in Rupandehi.
