KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress General Secretary Gagan Thapa has urged all party members and youth to actively participate in debates ahead of the party’s upcoming convention.
In a 14-minute video shared on social media, Thapa appealed to young people, even those outside the party, to support Nepali Congress’s reform journey, saying their involvement would bring fresh energy and strength.
He emphasized that the move to raise the convention agenda at the ongoing central committee meeting stems from responsibility toward the nation and concern over the party’s current situation.
Reflecting on public dissatisfaction during the September 8-9 protests, Thapa acknowledged that Nepali Congress contributed to widespread frustration over corruption, nepotism, and misgovernance.
“Until September 8, Nepali Congress was the largest parliamentary party. Today, we are neither in power nor in opposition. Our relevance is questioned. It’s time to review our mistakes and take corrective action,” he said.
Thapa particularly called on the younger generation to play an active role in the party’s internal reforms and restructuring.
