KATHMANDU: During today’s House of Representatives meeting’s special hour, lawmakers drew the government’s attention to issues including health services, disaster management, squatters’ problems, road safety, and social inclusion.

MP Gyanu Paudel stressed the need for effective implementation of every citizen’s fundamental right to health care. She said access to health services remains uneven across the country and highlighted shortages at the 93-year-old Bhim Hospital in Rupandehi.

“There is a shortage of anti-rabies vaccines, medicines for snakebite treatment, and other life-saving drugs in the hospital. I urge the government to address this immediately,” Paudel said.

Similarly, MP Khadak Bahadur Budha called for timely management of disaster-affected people and genuine squatters. He also demanded the swift reconstruction of roads, drinking water systems, and other infrastructure damaged by natural disasters.

MP Dr Arjun Kumar Karki urged the government to take the risk of Ebola virus infection seriously. He noted that the World Health Organization (WHO) has classified Ebola as a serious health risk and warned that Nepal could also be at risk due to Nepali citizens working in African countries, calling for precautionary measures.

MP Guru Prasad Baral emphasized the need for a long-term solution to the squatters’ issue through permanent settlement arrangements. He said citizens staying in holding centers are facing difficulties and urged immediate management.

MP Sajida Khatun Siddiqui expressed concern over the rising number of road accidents and called for stronger road safety measures. She urged the government to improve road conditions and safety management.

MP Madan Krishna Shrestha stressed that the state must make special arrangements for the protection and care of persons with severe disabilities.

MP Samina Miya requested the postponement of examinations scheduled during Bakra Eid and called for alternative arrangements, emphasizing respect for cultural diversity and sensitivity.

Similarly, MP Yashoda Kumari Baral highlighted heavy damage caused by a recent flood in Chankheli Rural Municipality–5 of Humla and demanded immediate relief for affected residents.
MP Ramesh Sapkota also raised concerns over the flood in Humla, saying relief materials have not reached affected areas due to lack of road access.

He called for immediate budget allocation, effective rescue and relief operations, and the establishment of a long-term disaster management mechanism.

The issues raised during the special hour largely focused on strengthening health services, improving disaster response, ensuring social protection, and safeguarding citizens’ basic rights.
