KATHMANDU: Opposition lawmakers disrupted the House of Representatives on Friday, standing in protest as soon as Speaker Dol Prasad Aryal commenced the session to demand government accountability over domestic tragedy and border security lapses.

During the session, Nepali Communist Party lawmaker Parbati BK held the government responsible for the death of 25-year-old Ganesh Nepali, who committed self-immolation outside the Department of Passports.

BK stated that a steep Rs 10,000 traffic fine for motorcycle parking caused the youth severe mental distress, calling his death a direct result of state apathy and unconsidered fine hikes.

Simultaneously, CPN (UML) lawmaker Bhumika Limbu Subba slammed the administration’s silence over national sovereignty.

She condemned a past controversial statement by the Prime Minister regarding territorial lines and questioned why diplomatic notes have not been sent to India following recent unauthorized incursions by the Indian Border Security Force in Susta and unpermitted military helicopter flights in Darchula’s airspace.
