JANAKPURDHAM: The Janamat Party has withdrawn its support from the Madhesh Province Government.
A letter signed by the party’s chief whip, Chandan Kumar Singh, confirming the withdrawal of support has been submitted to the Office of the Province Chief. Secretary Narayan Prasad Dahal confirmed that the office has received the letter.
The Janamat Party holds 12 seats in the provincial assembly and is part of the government with two ministries. Mahesh Yadav serves as Finance Minister, while Basant Kushwaha holds the portfolio for Sports and Social Welfare.
Chief whip Singh also confirmed that the party has officially withdrawn its support.
However, parliamentary party leader and Finance Minister Mahesh Yadav said he was unaware of any such decision.
Amid weeks of speculation about the withdrawal, Chief Minister Krishna Prasad Yadav had claimed on Monday that the government would not change.
Meanwhile, sources say there is a tentative agreement among parties—excluding the Nepali Congress—to form a new government.
