KATHMANDU: The Koshi Province Assembly meeting scheduled for Tuesday has been postponed for a second time after the ruling coalition failed to resolve a budget dispute with disgruntled lawmakers.

According to a notice issued by Provincial Assembly Secretary Sudarshan Khadka, the government requested the postponement, prompting the Speaker to reschedule the sitting for 1 p.m. on Thursday, July 2. The meeting had previously been deferred from June 25.

Lawmakers from both the ruling coalition and the opposition have objected to the provincial budget, alleging that allocations are imbalanced and were introduced unilaterally. Talks between Chief Minister Hikmat Kumar Karki and the disgruntled faction failed to produce a breakthrough.

The dissenting lawmakers have insisted that budget revisions be incorporated into the schedule and reflected in the Appropriation Bill, rejecting the chief minister’s proposal to address changes after the bill is introduced. They have also warned they will obstruct Assembly proceedings unless their demands are addressed.
