KATHMANDU: The meeting of the Madhesh Provincial Assembly was adjourned after opposition parties became absent from the session.

The Assembly was discussing the government’s policy and program when all opposition parties, after presenting their amendment proposals and expressing their views, walked out of the meeting. Amendments were proposed by Lalbabu Raut of the Janata Samajbadi Party Nepal (JSP-Nepal), and Sanjay Kumar Yadav and Shambhu Sah of the Janamat Party.

Amendment proposals were also presented by Rajkumar Lekhi from the ruling coalition partner CPN-UML and Pramod Yadav from the Nepali Communist Party.

While presenting his amendment, Lalbabu Raut criticized the government for failing to include concrete measures in the policy and program regarding the implementation of the Provincial Police Act and the broader implementation of federalism.

Similarly, Sanjay Kumar Yadav argued that the government had failed to introduce a policy and program that reflected the aspirations and needs of the people.

After the opposition members formally presented their amendment proposals in the Assembly, all opposition lawmakers left the chamber.

Following the opposition’s walkout, Speaker Ram Ashish Yadav announced that discussions on the policy and program would continue and adjourned the meeting until 1:00 PM on Tuesday.

Janamat Party leader Sanjay Kumar Yadav said that the government’s policy and program was not people-oriented, adding that his party could not remain in the Assembly as a witness to such a program.
