KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress President Gagan Thapa has assured local government representatives that intra-party reconciliation efforts are heading toward a consensus, urging cadres to refrain from actions that could derail unity.

Addressing the pressure group composed of party-aligned local leaders on Sunday, President Thapa asked them to postpone their scheduled national gathering on Shrawan July 31 to allow top leadership time to resolve internal disputes fine-tuned by a four-member task force set to finalize an agreement by early October.

Responding to warnings from local mayors and officials who threatened to resign from their municipal posts if party divisions persist, Thapa reassured them that unity remains paramount to facing current political challenges and pledged that such extreme measures will not be necessary.
