KATHMANDU: The National Assembly meeting was adjourned on Tuesday until 1:15 PM on June 9, 2026, after opposition lawmakers continued their protests over remarks made by Prime Minister Balendra Shah (Balen) regarding the Nepal-India border issue.

As soon as the session began, opposition members stood in protest, preventing the House from proceeding with its scheduled business. The disruption forced the adjournment of the meeting for the third consecutive time.

The Assembly had been scheduled to begin a general discussion on the government’s annual estimates of revenue and expenditure for fiscal year 2026/27. Finance Minister Swarnim Wagle was also set to table a proposal to consider the Alternative Development Finance Mobilization Bill, 2026, received from the House of Representatives.

Opposition parties have been demanding that Prime Minister Shah retract and clarify his statement that Nepal has also encroached on Indian territory, arguing that the remarks undermine Nepal’s established position on border issues.
