KATHMANDU: The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has informed the House of Representatives that Prime Minister Balendra Shah will appear before Parliament within a week.

RSP Chief Whip Kabindra Burlakoti made the announcement during Tuesday’s second parliamentary session after opposition lawmakers continued their protests.

Burlakoti assured the House that the Prime Minister’s attendance within seven days is certain, a move aimed at allowing parliamentary proceedings to move forward smoothly.

Following the assurance, CPN (UML) Deputy Parliamentary Party Leader Padma Aryal accused the ruling party of failing to fulfill the consensus previously reached in the Business Advisory Committee.

She remarked that Parliament is not a venue to sing praises of the government, adding that the opposition was simply fulfilling its duty to hold the executive accountable to the legislature.

Other opposition lawmakers also demanded a formal ruling from the Speaker’s chair regarding the Prime Minister’s scheduled appearance.

In response, Speaker Dol Prasad Aryal urged lawmakers to resume regular business, noting that the parliament secretariat had received official confirmation from the RSP regarding the Prime Minister’s upcoming attendance.

Following the Speaker’s appeal, opposition members ended their obstruction of the House and joined the scheduled legislative discussions on pending bills.
