KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court has issued a
show-cause order to the government regarding former Prime Minister and UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli’s petition for habeas corpus.
The court refused to grant an interim order to released him and instead directed the government to submit a written explanation. The order was issued by a bench headed by Justice Meghraj Pokharel.
Earlier, the Supreme Court had also issued a similar show-cause order in response to a petition filed by former Home Minister and Nepali Congress leader Ramesh Lekhak. The court instructed the government to appear and explain the reasons for their arrests.
Oli’s habeas corpus petition was filed by his wife, Radhika Shakya. The police had detained Oli and Lekhak on September 08, 2025 Gen-Z crackdown investigation. The family has challenged their detention as unlawful, prompting the petition before the Supreme Court.
