ILam: A two-day ‘Kechana-Kanchenjunga Responsible Tourism Meet’ is taking place in Ilam from today.
In order to promote sustainable and responsible tourism in eastern Nepal, Ilam Municipality’s Tourism Promotion Committee hosted the meet.
It is taking place at the Gautam Buddha City Hall in the district headquarters. Minister for Tourism, Forest and Environment of the Koshi province, Bhim Parajuli is set to inaugurate the meet, informed Coordinator of the Tourism Promotion Center, Sushila Sapkota.
She said the event has been organized to promote the bio-diversity, natural heritage and cultural specialties spreading from Terai to mountainous regions in an integrated manner.
“Our prime objective is to develop Kechana, the lowest point of Nepal, and Kanchenjunga, the third highest peak in the world, as a single tourism corridor and promote tourism through publicity”, she added.
Tourism entrepreneurs, cultural scholars, environmentalists, representatives of the general public, and concerned agencies from Nepal and India will participate in the Responsible Tourism Meet, which will last on Sunday.
According to him, the conference will feature discussions among national and international experts on responsible tourism, biodiversity, environmental balance, local community participation, and green economy.
