Thunderstorms, moderate rain likely in several parts of Nepal today

KATHMANDU: According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, Nepal is currently experiencing the partial influence of westerly winds, local winds, a low-pressure area in the lower atmosphere near the eastern region, and a low-pressure trough in the upper atmosphere over the central and eastern parts of the country.

At present, hilly and mountainous areas of Koshi Province, Bagmati Province, and Gandaki Province are generally cloudy, while the rest of the country is partly cloudy.

Moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning is occurring in some hilly and mountainous areas of Koshi and Bagmati provinces, as well as at one or two places in the mountainous region of Lumbini Province.

The department said that this afternoon, hilly and mountainous regions, including Sudurpashchim Province, are expected to remain generally cloudy, while the Terai region will see partial cloud cover.

A few places in the hilly and mountainous regions, along with one or two places in the Terai areas of Lumbini and Sudurpashchim provinces, may witness moderate rainfall with thunder and lightning.

Tonight, generally cloudy conditions are expected in the hilly and mountainous regions of Koshi, Madhesh Province, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini provinces, while the remaining areas will remain partly cloudy.

The department has forecast moderate rainfall with thunder and lightning at a few places in these provinces and at one or two places elsewhere.

There is also a possibility of light snowfall in some high-altitude areas.
