KATHMANDU: Nepal continues to experience widespread monsoon activity as the low-pressure axis remains positioned near its average location, bringing cloudy conditions and scattered precipitation across the nation.

Meteorologists warn that severe weather could trigger flash floods, landslides, and widespread disruptions across multiple regions, with heavy downpours targeted particularly at the hilly and mountainous belts of Bagmati, Gandaki, and Karnali provinces today.

While the Terai belt of Koshi Province is enjoying mostly clear skies, moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning is already active across parts of Koshi, Bagmati, Karnali, Gandaki, Lumbini, and Sudurpaschim provinces.

Throughout the afternoon, the Meteorological Forecasting Division expects mostly cloudy skies over the hills and mountains, with partly cloudy weather across the southern plains.

Moderate rain with thunder and lightning will affect several high-altitude areas, while isolated spots in the hilly and mountainous terrains of Bagmati, Gandaki, and Karnali face a heightened risk of heavy rainfall.

Meanwhile, moderate thunder-showers are anticipated across several Terai areas in Bagmati and Gandaki, as well as isolated pockets in Koshi, Madhesh, Lumbini, and Sudurpaschim provinces.

Overnight conditions will remain generally to fully cloudy nationwide, with moderate rain and thunder persisting across the hilly and mountainous regions of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim, alongside scattered showers in the Terai.

The threat of heavy rainfall will continue through the night for isolated places in the high-altitude areas of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces.

In light of these conditions, the Meteorological Forecasting Division has issued a stern advisory warning that heavy downpours could trigger severe debris flows, flash floods, landslides, and soil erosion.

As the adverse weather threatens to disrupt daily life, agriculture, public health, tourism, mountaineering, and both road and air transportation, authorities strongly urge residents and travelers in vulnerable areas to exercise extreme caution and stay updated through official weather bulletins.
