KATHMANDU: The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) has urged the public and emergency agencies to maintain high alertness, warning of severe weather and potential disasters over the next 48 hours.

According to forecasts from the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, heavy to extremely heavy rainfall is expected across several provinces, including Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, and Sudurpashchim. The intense downpours significantly increase the risk of flash floods, landslides, and widespread inundation.

In response to the elevated threat, the NDRRMA has requested relevant authorities to suspend night-time vehicular movement in designated high-risk districts, which include Kaski, Sindhupalchok, Kavre, and Panchthar, while advising citizens to avoid non-essential night travel.

Residents living near riverbanks, landslide-prone hillsides, and low-lying areas are urged to remain highly vigilant.

Meanwhile, emergency response mechanisms have been fully activated. NDRRMA officials confirmed that security forces, local government bodies, and volunteer teams are on standby for immediate deployment.

Heavy machinery, including excavators and loaders, has been positioned along vulnerable highway stretches to clear potential debris quickly, and authorities are prepared to proactively relocate high-risk settlements based on real-time weather updates.
