KATHMANDU: The Flood Forecasting Division has issued a high-alert warning for Saturday, projecting a moderate risk of sudden flash floods across 24 districts, including the capital city of Kathmandu.
According to the official advisory, heavy monsoon rains are expected to trigger a significant and rapid rise in water levels across smaller rivers, streams, and tributaries flowing through these regions and their surrounding areas.
The high-risk zones span multiple provinces, encompassing Taplejung, Solukhumbu, and Sankhuwasabha in the east, to Dolakha, Sindhupalchok, Kavre, Makwanpur, and Chitwan in the central region.
In addition to the three districts of the Kathmandu Valley—Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, and Lalitpur—the warning also covers western and far-western districts including Palpa, Kaski, Tanahun, Syangja, Parbat, Baglung, Myagdi, Mustang, Rukum Paschim, Doti, Bajhang, Kailali, and Kanchanpur.
Disaster management authorities have strongly urged residents living near riverbanks and in low-lying areas to remain highly vigilant throughout the day.
As the primary threat stems from sudden surges in smaller, fast-moving waterways rather than larger river basins, local communities have been advised to monitor water levels closely and prepare for potential emergency evacuations if intense rainfall persists.
