KATHMANDU: The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has announced that rainfall across the country will gradually decrease starting this Wednesday.

According to the department, the ongoing precipitation is driven by the nationwide influence of monsoon winds, with the monsoon trough currently positioned north of its usual location.

Senior Meteorologist Min Kumar Aryal informed that while various parts of the country will continue to experience rain today and tomorrow, the weather system will begin to subside progressively from Wednesday onwards.

During the day today, light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning is expected in a few places within the mountainous regions and across many areas of the hilly terrain.

The department has also forecast moderate rain in many parts of the Terai plains within Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, and Sudurpashchim provinces, as well as a few areas in Madhesh Province.

Furthermore, a weather warning has been issued for potential heavy rain in one or two isolated locations within the hilly regions of Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpashchim provinces.

The wet weather is set to persist into the night, with moderate rainfall, thunder, and lightning projected for many hilly and Terai areas of Madhesh, Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini provinces, alongside a few hilly locations in Karnali and Sudurpashchim.

The department notes that heavy overnight rain remains a possibility in one or two places within both the hilly and Terai belts of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini provinces.

Due to these conditions, authorities have urged residents living in vulnerable zones to exercise high caution against the immediate risks of floods, landslides, inundation, and debris flow.
