KATHMANDU: Nepal Electricity Authority earned a profit of Rs 11.36 billion in the first 6 months of the current fiscal year (FY) 081/82.
The NEA earned a total of Rs 70.44 billion from electricity sales, interest and others during this period. A total of Rs 59.8 billion has been spent on electricity purchase, administrative, various projects, etc. Thus, the Authority’s gross profit (before tax) from Shrawan to mid-Poush of the current fiscal year is projected to be Rs 11.36 billion.
The Authority, which had an annual loss of Rs 8.89 billion in FY 072/73, has been in continuous profit since the following years. In the last fiscal year 080/81, the Authority earned a profit of Rs 14.46 billion. From the profits it earns, the NEA is investing in projects for the expansion and strengthening of infrastructure for electricity generation, transmission and distribution, and electrification.
The NEA has collected Rs 53.18 billion from electricity sales in the first six months of the current fiscal year. During this period, a total of 6.31 billion units of electricity have been purchased, including Rs 1.15 billion from the NEA’s subsidiaries and affiliates and Rs 5.16 billion from other private generating companies.
