KATHMANDU: Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) MP Gyanendra Shahi has claimed that nearly 8 million Nepali youths are working abroad, accusing the Ministry of Labor of doing nothing for their welfare.

Speaking at the House of Representatives session on Sunday, Shahi stated, “Around 8 million youths are currently forced to work in foreign countries. However, the Ministry of Labor and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs remain silent. Even when Nepalis are held hostage, the Labor Ministry does nothing. At present, remittances worth Rs 1.44 trillion have been sent by Nepalis working abroad.”

He also accused the ministry of inaction despite many families being displaced due to exploitation by brokers.
“The Labor Ministry’s job is to protect Nepalis, but today, many are cheated by brokers and left homeless,” Shahi remarked.

Will the Labor Minister just ride around in cars or work for the people? If they are not working for the people, then there is no point in their role,” he added.
