KATHMANDU: The United States on Friday handed over a USD 1 million package of maternal, newborn, and child health equipment, along with a refrigerated freezer van, to support the country’s healthcare system and national immunization program.

US Chargé d’Affaires ad interim Scott Urbom joined government officials at the Department of Health Services in Teku to mark the handover, according to the US Embassy.

The embassy said the refrigerated freezer van will strengthen the national immunization program by transporting vaccines at minus 20 degrees Celsius from the Central Vaccine Store to all seven provinces, helping ensure safe vaccine delivery across the country.

The maternal, newborn, and child health equipment will be distributed to provincial, district, and tertiary hospitals to support frontline health workers in providing quality care for mothers and newborns.

According to the embassy, the assistance reflects the United States’ continued partnership with Nepal and its commitment to strengthening resilient, locally led health systems.
