KATHMANDU: The government has instructed Nepali ambassadors serving in six different countries not to return to Nepal until a further decision is made.

Those who were preparing to return home after completing their terms have been asked to stay in their respective host nations for the time being.

According to Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesperson Lok Bahadur Paudel Chhetri, this directive has been issued to the Nepali ambassadors to Bahrain, Bangladesh, Brazil, Myanmar, Austria, and Egypt.

The decision to extend their tenures was taken during Wednesday’s Cabinet meeting following delays in appointing new ambassadors.

Currently, Ghanshyam Bhandari (Bangladesh), Tirtha Raj Wagle (Bahrain), Nirmal Raj Kafle (Brazil), Harishchandra Ghimire (Myanmar), Bharat Regmi (Permanent Representative to the UN Mission in Austria), and Sushil Lamsal (Egypt) are serving as Nepal’s envoys.

The government has requested them to continue fulfilling their responsibilities until new ambassadors are appointed or a fresh decision is taken.
