KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court has dismissed the writ petition filed against Dr. Bishwo Paudel’s potential appointment as the Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank.

The petition was submitted by advocates Prativa Upreti and Bishal Thapa, arguing that Dr. Paudel’s likely appointment would violate the Nepal Rastra Bank Act.

The Supreme Court administration rejected the writ on the grounds that it lacked clear evidence of Dr. Paudel being officially recommended for the Governor’s position by the Governor Recommendation Committee.

According to court officials, the petition was primarily based on media reports and failed to demonstrate any concrete violation of collective rights.

Reports had earlier surfaced suggesting that ruling parties, Nepali Congress and CPN-UML, had reached a political agreement to nominate Dr. Paudel as the Central Bank Governor. This political consensus fueled speculation about his impending appointment, prompting legal challenges.

Amidst the controversy, Dr. Paudel resigned from his position as a member of the Governor Selection Committee.
