NEW DELHI: The total number of active COVID-19 cases across India has reached 1,083. Kerala has the highest number of cases, with 430 patients currently infected. On Tuesday, new cases were reported in Karnataka (36), Gujarat (17), Bihar (5), and Haryana (3). Meanwhile, 13 patients have recovered in Gujarat.
In the Northeast, COVID-19 cases are also emerging. On Tuesday, two women in Arunachal Pradesh tested positive for the virus. One of them showed symptoms such as fever and mild cough, while the other was asymptomatic.
In Uttar Pradesh’s Firozabad, a 78-year-old COVID-positive elderly man died during treatment on Tuesday. This is the first death in the state attributed to the new COVID variant.
Additionally, there have been a total of 11 COVID-related deaths in Maharashtra, Rajasthan, West Bengal, Karnataka, and Madhya Pradesh, bringing the nationwide death toll to 12.
Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled visit to Bihar on May 29-30, the state health department has been put on high alert. It has been ordered that all individuals within a 100-meter radius of the Prime Minister will be tested for COVID-19.
Deaths in Kerala and Rajasthan
On May 26, two COVID-19 patients died in Jaipur, Rajasthan. One was found dead at the railway station and later tested positive for the virus. The other was a 26-year-old man admitted to a private hospital who also suffered from tuberculosis.
In Thane, Maharashtra, a COVID-positive woman died during treatment. Earlier, on May 25, a 21-year-old man receiving treatment in a Thane hospital passed away; he had been undergoing treatment since May 22.
Earlier, on May 17, an 84-year-old man in Bengaluru, Karnataka, died due to multi-organ failure. His COVID-19 test was confirmed positive on May 24. Kerala has also reported two deaths due to COVID-19.
