KATHMANDU: In today’s National Assembly session, members renewed calls for the resignation of Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak amid the ongoing visit visa scandal.
MP Gopi Bahadur Achhami, during a sudden speech, urged an impartial investigation into the scandal. He pointed out that several officials, including the head of the Immigration Office at Tribhuvan International Airport, have already been arrested by the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA).
Achhami stressed that the Home Minister should step down to ensure a fair inquiry. He further expressed worry that the controversy is damaging Nepal’s international image and accused the two-thirds majority government of failing to act responsibly and be accountable to the public.
National Assembly Chairperson Narayan Prasad Dahal acknowledged the gravity of the issue.
The assembly is scheduled to discuss the matters concerning the Ministries of Urban Development; Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation; Health and Population; and Forests and Environment.
