KATHMANDU: The House of Representatives meeting scheduled for Wednesday was postponed again without convening, with the Speaker’s Secretariat announcing the session will now be held at 1 PM on Thursday.
Tuesday’s session was also adjourned without sitting amid ongoing disputes.
The deadlock continues as opposition parties demand the resignation of Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak over his alleged involvement in the visit visa scandal and insist on forming a high-level judicial or parliamentary committee to investigate the matter. These demands remain the opposition’s bottom line for resuming parliamentary proceedings.
A meeting held earlier on Wednesday between Speaker Devraj Ghimire, chief whips of parliamentary parties, and Law Minister Ajay Chaurasiya failed to produce any breakthrough. Both the ruling coalition and opposition parties stuck firmly to their positions, resulting in no progress toward resolving the stalemate.
The continuous obstruction by opposition parties has stalled House sessions and paralyzed parliamentary business, with previous attempts to resolve the issue—including two postponed meetings on Tuesday—proving unsuccessful.
