GANDAKI: Gandaki Province announced its annual policy and programs for the upcoming fiscal year on Wednesday.
Provincial Chief Dilli Ram Bhatta presented the document in the assembly, repeating several past initiatives while introducing new slogans.
The policy emphasizes improving the provincial government’s organizational structure based on recommendations from the administrative restructuring committee.
A new Provincial Project Bank Information System has been launched to select and prioritize development projects based on feasibility and resource availability.
Just a day after suspending ride-sharing regulations under federal directive, the provincial government pledged to make ride-sharing services more effective.
The now-defunct Science and Technology Academy’s responsibilities will be transferred to Gandaki University.
So far, the Gandaki Assembly has passed 78 laws. Bhatta said the province continues to exercise exclusive and concurrent powers under the constitution through necessary legal frameworks.
The province boasts 930 km of blacktopped roads, 700 km of gravel roads, 110 road bridges, and 84 suspension bridges.
Electricity coverage now reaches 99.54% of households, and 152,000 private taps have been installed through the ‘One House, One Tap’ initiative.
The Janata Awas Program will continue for disadvantaged and marginalized groups. Cultural preservation programs targeting ethnic and linguistic communities are also being expanded.
The province will use the District Disaster Management Fund to continue rebuilding homes affected by natural disasters and improve disaster preparedness.
Despite steady economic growth, critics point to weak policy-budget coordination. Federal grant cuts and sluggish internal revenue have dampened expectations for next year’s budget, which is due by mid-June.
