KATHMANDU:The scheduled meeting of the House of Representatives (HoR) today remains uncertain as opposition parties persist in their demand for the resignation of Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak due to the visit visa scandal.

Despite ongoing talks, no resolution has been reached between the ruling and opposition parties, resulting in repeated postponements of the House session.

According to the Parliament Secretariat, the meeting originally scheduled for Wednesday has been moved to 1 p.m. today (Thursday). However, there is no sign that it will take place, as the lack of consensus persists.

On Wednesday, Speaker Devraj Ghimire held discussions with party leaders and chief whips from both sides in an attempt to break the deadlock.

Despite these efforts, the opposition has remained firm in its demand for Lekhak’s resignation.

The opposition, particularly the Maoist Centre, insists that Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak must step down before any parliamentary proceedings can resume. They argue that the scandal has severely damaged the government’s credibility and that his resignation is essential for an impartial investigation.

The opposition has also called on Prime Minister to address Parliament, take responsibility, and promise to resolve the issue.

During the Speaker’s meeting, Maoist Centre Chief Whip Hit Raj Pandey emphasized that the House cannot function properly until Lekhak resigns.

The ruling parties, including the Nepali Congress and CPN-UML, argue that the Home Minister should be allowed to present himself in Parliament and defend his actions before any further decisions are made.

The deadlock has stalled crucial discussions on the national budget, which was introduced in a joint session of Parliament on May 29. Although the budget has been formally presented, debate on it has yet to begin due to the opposition’s continued obstruction.
