KATHMANDU:  The Flood Forecasting Division under Nepal’s Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has issued a flood warning for Sunday, cautioning residents in several parts of the country about potential rising water levels.

According to the Division’s latest bulletin, there is a risk of flooding in rivers and streams across eight eastern and southeastern districts. The notice specifically mentions Ilam, Panchthar, Khotang, Jhapa, Morang, Sunsari, Dhankuta, and Udayapur, advising residents living near riverbanks to exercise heightened caution throughout the day.

“As water levels are expected to rise in some small rivers flowing through these areas and surrounding regions today, people living in riverbank areas are advised to remain cautious,” the statement reads.

The Division has also released a three-day forecast, valid through Tuesday, which outlines the possibility of water level fluctuations in various river systems. While major rivers such as the Koshi, Narayani, Karnali, Mahakali, and their tributaries — including the West Rapti and Babai rivers — are expected to remain below alert levels, residents are still urged to remain observant of any sudden changes.

In addition, the Division has identified the Kankai, Kamala, and Bagmati rivers as potentially volatile, noting that their flow may increase in the coming days. People residing or working near these rivers are advised to maintain continuous vigilance and take appropriate safety measures.

The Flood Forecasting Division will continue to monitor developments and provide updates as necessary.
