KATHMANDU:Vehicles traveling across various major highways in the country have been heavily disrupted due to ongoing rainfall, floods, landslides, and road maintenance over the past few days.
According to the latest data from the Department of Roads, full or partial blockages were reported across several road sections in Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces as of 7:00 AM this morning.
In Koshi Province, major highways across three districts have been hit by flooding.
The Mid-Hill Highway (Madhya Pahadi Lokmarga) has been affected by floods at Bokhim in Bhojpur Municipality-5 and Dobhan in Yangwarak Rural Municipality-2 of Panchthar.
Similarly, the Mechi Highway is obstructed due to flooding at Rajduwali in Ilam Municipality-9.
Currently, traffic is limited to one-way operations at all three locations.
In Bagmati Province, vehicular movement has been completely halted along the Khurkot–Nepalthok–Katunjebensi section of the BP Highway as a precautionary measure against potential flood risks.
Additionally, the road section connecting Kathmandu via Kulekhani-Phakhel-Humane-Pharping in Makwanpur has been completely closed for the next month due to ongoing road maintenance.
Commuters who use this route are advised to take alternative roads.
In Gandaki Province, two major road sections are completely blocked by landslides.
A landslide at Kharkhare Bhir in Besisahar Municipality-6 of Lamjung has brought traffic along the Besisahar-Manang road section to a total standstill.
Furthermore, the Kaligandaki Corridor has also been completely blocked due to a landslide that triggered early this morning at Ghokraphat in Gaindakot Municipality-3 of Nawalparasi (Bardaghat Susta Purba).
