SINDHUPALCHOWK. The ‘Helambu Himalayan Great Trail’ currently under construction in Sindhupalchowk is not merely a trekking route—it is a magnificent confluence of nature, culture, and spirituality.

In accordance with Hyolmo tradition, it is named the ‘Dharmachakra Wall’.

The chortens (shrines) built at various intervals, serene green forests, crisp Himalayan breeze, and distant views of snow-capped peaks offer travelers a unique and profound experience with every single step.

From here, one can view dozens of mountain peaks including Semisidang, Dorje Lakpa, Gangchempo, Yuva Peak, and Gaurishankar.

Inspired by the world-famous Great Wall of China, this ambitious project aims to construct a 60-kilometer-long trail encircling the Hyolmo land of Helambu.

Helambu Rural Municipality Chairperson Nima Gyalzen Sherpa stated that a seven-kilometer section of this project has already been completed.

“Out of the 60 kilometers, we have completed a 7-kilometer trekking path, and anyone who visits is left utterly amazed,” he said. “This is one of the most vital pride projects of Helambu Rural Municipality.”

Starting from Buddha Park, this tourist trail passes through Sermanthang–Jyomthang and connects to Mt. Ama Yangri, a famous pilgrimage site situated on the border of Panchpokhari Thangpal Rural Municipality and Helambu.

The trail will further extend through Dupu–Bhemathang, Pasangsiri–Ghuphupokhari–Jalansa–Dawalang Cave, and the Semisidang area.

Work is progressing in a way that allows travelers completing the trail to circumambulate most of the religious sites here while absorbing panoramic views of the entire Helambu region.

Spanning an altitude from 2,500 meters up to 5,000 meters above sea level, the complete 60-kilometer trail will take about a week to traverse on foot.

Upon completion, every single day on this journey promises to offer new vistas, fresh experiences, and new thrilling stories.
