KATHMANDU: Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak has said it is appropriate to continue with the current coalition government involving the CPN-UML.

Speaking at the ongoing Central Committee meeting of the Nepali Congress on Tuesday, Lekhak emphasized that the current government, in which the Congress is a partner, should be continued.

“For the benefit of the Nepali Congress, we must create an environment where this coalition can sustain, bringing other political forces together and maintaining the current alliance-led government,” he said.

He cautioned against contemplating government change, arguing that discussing alternatives could derail political objectives.

“If we start talking about alternatives, we won’t reach our destination,” he said. “That would not be in the interest of the Nepali Congress. I urge that any shortcomings should be corrected within the current government instead of opting for change.”

Lekhak further claimed that those representing the party in the government are working to run it effectively based on the fundamental principles of coalition governance.

“We are trying to run the government properly by adhering to the basic norms, traditions, and practices of coalition governance,” he said.

Acknowledging occasional shortcomings despite their efforts, Lekhak appealed to fellow party members to view things positively.

“Mistakes happen even when we try our best. Many of you have been in government, and even those who haven’t are well informed about these matters,” he said. “I urge you to understand the situation accordingly.”
