MUSTANG: The Jomsom–Korala road, a national pride project connecting north to south, has been blocked due to a landslide along the Kagbeni–Korala section.

According to the District Police Office Mustang, the Korala Highway was obstructed early this morning after rocks and debris fell onto the road at Manebhir, following heavy rainfall overnight.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Chhiring Kippa Lama stated that the landslide occurred around 200 meters north of the Kagkhola area in Kagbeni.

Large boulders tumbled down from above Manebhir, completely blocking the road. Efforts to clear the obstruction are underway with the deployment of excavators and manpower.

With the blockage of the Kagbeni–Korala section, vehicular movement to and from Upper Mustang has come to a halt.

DSP Lama mentioned that it may take some time to fully reopen the road due to the size of the fallen rocks. In the meantime, efforts are being made to clear a path for motorcycles and light vehicles.

Additionally, the flow of the Kaligandaki River has risen significantly due to last night’s rain. The District Administration Office has urged residents in riverside settlements to remain on high alert.
