SARLAHI: Police have arrested an 18-year-old man who was allegedly caught committing theft while using a stolen pickup truck in Barahathwa Municipality-3, Sarlahi district.

The suspect, identified as Jumun Miya, a resident of Bagmati Municipality-6, was apprehended at around 4 am, on Friday after local residents raised an alarm.

According to police, Miya had allegedly stolen a mobile phone and cash from the house of Vijay Yadav before attempting to break into the nearby residence of Manoj Sahani. The attempt was foiled when Sahani’s wife spotted him and shouted for help, prompting residents to intervene.

Police recovered a pickup truck bearing registration number Madhesh Province 04-001 Cha 0367 from the suspect.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the vehicle had been reported stolen on June 2, 2026, from an area under the jurisdiction of the Area Police Office, Hariban. Authorities said the recovered pickup matches the description of the stolen vehicle.

Further investigation into the incident is underway.
