KAVREPALANCHOK: A month-long night traffic ban begins today along the Kavrepalanchok stretch of the BP Highway due to high monsoon disaster risks.

Vehicles will be stopped daily from 5 PM to 5 AM between Kavrebhanjyang and Nepalthok, according to the District Administration Office, Dhulikhel.

Chief District Officer Umesh Kumar Dhakal said the move aims to prevent accidents from landslides and floods.

Vehicles from Kathmandu will halt at Kavrebhanjyang, and those from the east at Nepalthok. This follows earlier 15-day and extended restrictions after repeated landslides blocked the route.

Last year, a major landslide damaged about 8 km of the highway, forcing traffic onto a riverbed route. Reconstruction work is now underway.

The BP Highway is vital for connecting eastern Nepal and sees high daily traffic.
