KATHMANDU: Nepal clinched its third win in the ongoing SAFF U-20 Women’s Championship, defeating Sri Lanka 7–0 in Dhaka, Bangladesh, on Thursday.

This is the second time Nepal has beaten Sri Lanka by the same scoreline in the tournament. With the victory, Nepal now leads the points table with 9 points from 4 matches.

Host nation Bangladesh, which has played one less game, also has 9 points but trails on goal difference, placing second.

Bhutan, with one win from three games, is third with 3 points. Sri Lanka, having lost all four matches, is out of title contention.

Nepal began the tournament with a commanding 6–1 win over Bhutan, followed by a narrow 2–3 loss to Bangladesh.

The team bounced back strongly, defeating Sri Lanka twice with identical 7–0 scorelines.

Nepal is still in the title race, with two more matches to play — against Bhutan on Saturday and Bangladesh on Monday.

The tournament features four teams in a single round-robin group, where each team plays the others twice.

The team finishing at the top of the table will be crowned champion.
