KATHMANDU: CPN-UML Chairman and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has stated that the party will hold internal discussions before making any decision regarding the renewal of former President Bidya Devi Bhandari’s party membership.

Speaking at the party’s Politburo meeting on Friday, Oli emphasized that Bhandari had been nominated for a second presidential term on the understanding that she would not return to active party politics.

“Her membership has not been renewed yet. Based on what has been raised, she should not re-enter active politics. This is a matter of trust,” Oli was quoted as saying by a member present at the meeting.

He added that a final decision would be taken by the concerned party committee after due deliberation.

The UML chairman also warned against creating internal unrest, stating that the party is facing a “serious and organized attack.”

He described any effort to stir internal conflict as “irresponsible” and warned that necessary steps would be taken to prevent further disruption.

Oli further said he learned about Bhandari’s potential return to politics through media reports and reminded members that constitutional norms require a former president to stay away from active politics after completing their term.

“Being elevated to a position and engaging in party politics are two different things,” he said.

Concluding his address, Oli urged leaders to follow internal processes and refrain from public commentary when the party is under pressure.

“Discussions on party structure and policy should be kept within the party,” he said.
