KATHMANDU: Five former office bearers of the Nepali Congress visited party President Sher Bahadur Deuba at his residence in Budhanilkantha on Tuesday morning to brief him on the conclusions of a meeting held a day earlier at leader Prakash Man Singh’s residence in Chaksibari.
The leaders—Krishna Prasad Sitaula, Prakash Man Singh, Bijaya Kumar Gachhadar, Gopalman Shrestha, and Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat—were part of the group.
Two other former office bearers, Bimalendra Nidhi and Dr. Shashank Koirala, did not attend the meeting with Deuba, though they had participated in Monday’s internal discussion.
At the Chaksibari meeting, the leaders concluded that the ruling coalition government must perform more effectively and that the alliance with the CPN-UML should be continued until the 2084 B.S. (2027 A.D.) general elections.
They also emphasized the need to hold internal debates to strengthen Nepal’s federal democratic republic and discussed forming a unified panel for the party’s upcoming 15th General Convention.
The group agreed that the constitution amendment process should move forward as per the agreement reached between the Nepali Congress and CPN-UML during the formation of the current coalition government.
Following this, the five leaders visited Deuba to draw his attention to the timely implementation of the seven-point agreement signed between the two parties.
