SIRAHA: On Wednesday afternoon, the Siraha District Court remanded three Indian nationals into judicial custody for further investigation after they were caught with an illegal firearm.

The trio—identified as residents of Madhubani district, Bihar—was apprehended by a patrolling team from the Mirchaiya Area Police Office on Tuesday.

They were riding a motorcycle along the Choharwa–Siraha road section in Ward 3 of Naraha Rural Municipality when they were stopped during a routine security check.

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Rajeshraj Puri, officers discovered a locally made handgun, commonly referred to as a katta, in their possession.

DSP Puri noted that in recent times, the influx of such homemade firearms from Bihar has posed a threat to peace in Nepal-India border villages of Siraha.

Authorities say criminal activities have surged in these areas, partly due to the open and largely unregulated border between Nepal and India.

Due to the ongoing investigation, police have withheld further details but confirmed more information will be disclosed once inquiries conclude.
