KATHMANDU: Chairman of CPN (Unified Socialist) Madhav Kumar Nepal has said his party opposes the Election Commission’s political party self-evaluation procedure, calling it unconstitutional.
Speaking on Friday at the inaugural session of the party’s Industry and Business District Committee in Kathmandu, Nepal argued that self-evaluation is an internal matter of political parties and thus the Commission’s procedure violates the constitution.
He noted that after opposition parties raised objections, both the UML and Nepali Congress also joined in opposing the procedure.
Nepal further stressed the need to end the tendency of holding party positions without fulfilling responsibilities, adding that party office bearers must be able to face various challenges.
He urged not to assess the role of CPN (Unified Socialist) in Nepali politics solely based on numbers, saying the party plays an important role beyond its size.
