KATHMANDU: Today, the Supreme Court is hearing four constitutional questions on whether Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli must seek a vote of confidence after parties withdraw support.

The case, filed by lawyer Birendra KC, concerns the withdrawal of backing by the Nagrik Unmukti Party and Janata Samajwadi Party Nepal.

Under Article 100(2) of the Constitution, the Prime Minister must present a confidence vote proposal within 30 days, which PM Oli did not do.

The Court will examine the government’s legal validity, effects of withdrawal by non-participating supporters, possible renewal of support, and the interplay between parliamentary arithmetic and constitutional provisions, before deciding on any interim order.
